“Stride with Pride” for Education

Every year Club D2BD hosts a Fashion Show to raise funds for the Harlingen Area Educational Foundation's educational programs and activities that have been either underfunded or not funded at all by the normal operating budget. These funds are used to facilitate student achievement and skill development; The fashion show is usually the Foundation’s main source of funding for the entire school year. Club D2BD, or Dare to be Different, is an off-campus community service club that has multiple community service events throughout the school year, and is run by high school students wanting to make a difference in their community.

This year, the fashion show’s the theme was “Le Cirque”, and was held at the HCISD’s Performing Arts Center. We had everything from delicious circus treats, to amazing acrobats from Central Texas' Austin Oddities. The show kicked off with the D2BD striders showing off their latest trends from our retailer, Dillard’s, in Harlingen. Starting with a eye catching casual look complimenting the circus theme, and finishing with sophisticated yet colorful evening wear.

Next we had our special guests… The Celebrity striders. These are all local celebrities in Harlingen, or well-known business men and women including Mayor Boswell himself. All of these celebrities rocked their flashy Dillard’s formal attire out on the runway with a hilarious performance from a funny clown from Austin Oddities (who almost stole the show.) Then we had our elementary striders, showcasing a fun casual look and making sure the audience had a smile on their faces, I mean who wouldn't have thought they were adorable? They were having a blast out there while they were striding, skipping, and even hover-boarding across the stage!

The last look was by the D2BD striders again, the boys wore some SNAZZY tuxedos from Armando’s, and the girls were in the breathtaking circus themed LALA Designs couture looks. They had everything from huge skirts with trains, led lights popping from their outfits, and the final dress that just SCREAMED vintage circus! They strutted out on the runway with a special performance from an aerialist who was so graceful and performed from 25ft in the air!

Ending the night with some power we announced our D2BD Scholarship winner, Megan Adair, who has been the most involved D2BD student and has helped at every event hosted by Club D2BD for the 2016-2017 school year. You go girl! Next we announced our raffle winners who got some pretty awesome prizes, and had gave a final "Thank You" to all who sponsored, donated, and attended to help contribute to Harlingen’s greater education. This year Club D2BD helped raise nearly $15,000 (yes you read it right), the Educational Foundation is having a great start to the 2017 school year.
